Veneers

A veneer is a thin ceramic shell on the front of a tooth. It changes the tooth's colour and shape, covers chips and gaps, and the smile looks natural.

Who they are for

  • Teeth have darkened and whitening does not help.
  • There are chips, gaps between teeth or an uneven shape.
  • You want a straight, bright smile without braces.

How it works

  • Consultation: the doctor assesses your teeth and bite and discusses shape and colour with you.
  • Caries treatment and cleaning if needed.
  • Tooth preparation and an impression; temporary veneers while the permanent ones are made.
  • Fitting and bonding the permanent veneers.

If less work is needed

  • Small chips and the shape of a single tooth can be corrected with an aesthetic restoration — no veneer needed.

Frequently asked questions

How long do veneers last?

Ceramic veneers last many years with good care and do not change colour.

Do teeth need to be ground down?

Usually the tooth is prepared slightly. The doctor will tell you how much after the examination.

Which is better — a veneer or a restoration?

A restoration is quicker and cheaper; a veneer is stronger and keeps its colour longer. The doctor will help you choose.
